The University of Berne celebrates the 150th birthday of Anna Tumarkin, pioneering philosopher and the first female professor in Europe to enjoy full academic rights. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, philosophy professor Anna Tumarkin was able to examine doctoral students and habilitation candidates at the University of Berne, and to sit on the Senate and Faculty. She was thus the first woman in the history to hold this position.
With lectures, a panel discussion and musical accompaniment, renowned women from politics, science and culture will commemorate Tumarkin's legacy and discuss her impulses for an open and just society. The event invites you to honor Tumarkin's commitment to women in science and her role as a role model for equality and to carry it forward.
